Now Extra Bandwidth Could Be Offered through App Stores

According to the findings of 3UK, data amounts most to the traffic experienced on its mobile network and almost 94 per cent of the traffic is data. But, for the operators it does not amount to much as it only makes up 20 per cent of the operator’s income.
News site, The Register said that now mobile operators could make more money by selling extra bandwidth along with apps in stores.
Operators are keen to make more money by increasing the prices of data usage, but this may also push away a whole bunch of new customers who might be interested in mobile data applications. That is why the operators are thinking of other ways to push the prices up.
By asking customers to pay for access to priority network privileges like 3UK does, operators can increase their revenue. Currently, 3UK offers customers priority access for a certain price if there is some network congestion that users want to avoid.
Other operators are also showing interest in adopting tiered charging methods. Data billing experts, Volubill claims that ten operators have already initiated the process and are trying to come up with ways to make more money.
Some are considering allowing users to buy an app in an online store that will also give them extra bandwidth needed to operate that application. The application and the bandwidth both will come at a single price as part of a package deal.
