Government agencies around the world are currently putting green police agencies on the job. In countries such as the US, the UK, Vietnam, and Israel, enforcement of environmental laws has been become a top priority. In order to enforce these laws, various government agencies have commissioned a variety of green police forces to make sure environmental violators are punished, as well as help raise environmental awareness in their respective countries.

In New York City, the Department of Environmental Conservation has put a green police force on the street. Every day, these green police officers patrol the streets looking for CO2 belching cars and trucks, and they have the power to pull over vehicles that are putting excessive emissions into New York’s skies. These green police can also be seen inspecting food vendors stalls. For example, the green police will often travel to Chinatown to make sure fish sellers are not selling endangered species, and that the fish they are selling are large enough.

In England, the Environment Agency is charged with enforcing the Carbon Reduction Commitment. To this end, the Environment Agency has set up a green police to inspect businesses across England. These green police have the power to search company properties and monitor a company’s power usage. Like New York’s green police, this green police also has the power to levy stiff fines for businesses who are not respecting Mother Nature.
