Gas Suppression Is for Domestic and Office Usage

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Fire poses a truthful menace to any householder and Gas Suppression can secure your households by furnishing a trusted and competent first defence against fires. Fire extinguishers that employ water damage other household fixtures while Gas Suppression don’t so this make it more valuable for household use.

How Gas Suppression Run

FM200 extinguisher tools are laden with liquid and a colourless and non-aromatic gas Halon. When the substances are brought out into the midst of a fire, the gas spreads out and cools dramatically. These instruments wipe out fires by decreasing the presence of oxygen and cooling the fires.

First, verify the pressure of the substances within gas fire extinguishers and make sure their settings are proper so they will run properly. If the contents of your extinguisher are under too big or small an amount of pressure, your FM200 extinguisher is not sound to function and should be replaced for a new one. When applying gas fire extinguishers, the safety pin must be withdrawn first. If you do not get rid of the peg, your FM200 extinguisher will not release any of the contents and your fire will storm on.

Local fire authorities and extinguisher sellers are able and inclined to direct you how to employ these tools efficaciously and safely. It is much fitter to learn how to function them early rather than when an real emergency takes place. Learning the correct utilization of FM200 should be done first so your household and loved ones can be saved.

Acquiring Your Own Gas Suppression Device

Gas Suppression is available to the public via numerous contending marketers. You can expect to get premium servicing from these suppliers. If you opt to purchase Gas Suppression tools online, make sure that the company is willing to offer a warrantee on their product. Through this, we can have the confidence we need that these items will function correctly and will not induce any problems when they are employed.

Emergency – Gas Fire!

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Woooooooo……Woooo………The siren sounded. All of us looked at each
other with excitement. The time has come for us to go into action.

From all over the building, we can see Emergency Response Team
members coming out, some looking a bit dazed. A general alarm had
been sounded and the ERT has been activated!

At the command post, the “Commander” quickly briefed all the ERT
members about the situation. There was a fire at the LPG storage
tank, and there was an urgent need to put out the fire before the
tank becomes so hot and pressurized that it explodes. Very serious
and widespread damage will certainly occur if that happened.

So all the ERT members swung into action. From the command post,
they ran all the way to the LPG area. One member was assigned to
the fire pump house to take care of the fire pumps. This type of
fire needed a tremendous amount of water to cool down the tank.
A few members barricaded the area leading to the fire. This was
necessary to ensure that the scene of the fire be restricted only
to people who are able to help, to ensure that the fire brigade
has free access, and for controlling the crowd.

As the ERT members reached the scene of the fire, the Commander
directed the operations while keeping in touch with one member
who was assigned for communications work at the command post.

The Direct Attack Team swung into action with their hoses. There
were 4 persons in each hose team – the first nozzle member, the
second support, the third runner, and the fourth hydrant valve
operator. Each member played their part to make the hose
connections, operate the valves, and advancing as smoothly as
possible.

The LPG fire need to be extinguished – but not by the water.
Extinguishing the fire in this way will create another hazard.
If the gas were to escape unburned, it could be more dangerous.
Any spark later on can ignite the gas and cause a bigger fire,
possibly causing a tremendous rush of expanding gases. So the
hose team have to try to approach the fire in order to close the
gas valve. That will stop the fire and the escaping gas.

There were sufficient people to operate 3 hose teams. While one
team approach the flaming area with a water-wall spray, another
two teams directed the water to the top of the LPG tanks with
water jet for cooling.

After a while, it was discovered that there was a casualty.
Somebody has been overcome by the smoke and has fainted. He has
also sustained a fracture on his arm. The first aid team was
called in, and they rendered first aid to the victim.

Within a few minutes, the fire was put off, and the building
was no longer in danger.

Fortunately, this was not a real fire. It was just a simulation,
using real LPG gas and burning in a controlled manner. This was
done to give the ERT members some feel of the real thing, to
check on our readiness, coordination, and skills so that they
can improve and develop their actions.

This type of simulation was very beneficial to the ERT members as
it gave them a first hand knowledge of what to expect in an actual
situation.

Think safety…

Computer Network Securities

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Computer security policies are the basic guidelines and rules for accessing a network. These lay out some basic concepts to secure your computers. Computer network security is a complicated area, and is taken up by experts with many years of on-the-job experience.

As more people turn to computers for simplifying their day-to-day activities and jobs, the need for general users to understand the concepts of network security has become important. One should know the risks involved in using the computer without the security systems, and learn how to deal with them successfully both at home and at work.

There are two popular types of network security systems: transit security and traffic regulation systems. When both of these join forces you can be assured of the delivery of important information to the right person without any network pilferage problems. The receiver should also ensure that the information received should be carefully processed using a computer which is loaded and protected with latest protection software.

The simplest form of ensuring security on the net is to keep a close watch on the type of data packets moving between the networks. If an infected packet does not reach the recipient, the host may have nothing to worry about. Traffic regulation systems serve as a protective screen between the receiver and remote sites. These tools generally guards three basic regions of the network: the routers, firewalls and hosts.

The three ‘guards’ deliver similar service at various points in the network, and it is difficult to draw a differentiating line between them. The truth is that there are no foolproof systems which offer a guaranteed secure system for data transferred in the public network. With the increasing use of the Internet, network security is fast becoming crucial for the safe use of the systems, and therefore computer network security is all set to be an important part of our regular computer usage.

Phishing

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Recently I have received email from my bank/credit Card Company, eBay & pay pal saying that my account has possibly been compromised and I need to confirm my details and password in order to get continued access.

Spam email now has a new and more frightening variant, it’s called phishing and it has been made by criminals and hackers who aim at getting unwitting consumers to reveal account numbers and passwords.

Usually after getting an email like the ones mentioned above from reputable companies, most of us would race to respond as quickly as possible. However, in most cases you will find that you won’t be helping anyone other then the criminal who wrote that email and who has nothing to do with the actual organizations.

What is Phishing?

It is when someone creates false email that pretends to be from a bank or other authority, but which is actually designed to collect sensitive information such as passwords. This process of stealing information used for fraudulent purposes is the latest problem to plague Internet users. It is a phenomenon know as phishing i.e. emails ‘fishing’ for important information.

Just like Spam, phishing mails are sent to the widest possible audience so it’s not unusual to receive a message asking you to confirm account details from an organization you do not actually deal with. You may be asked to fix up your eBay account when you haven’t even got one!

In addition to collecting sensitive information many phishing messages try to install spy ware, Trojans etc. allowing hackers to gain backdoor entry into computers.

Types of Phishing Emails:

Some phishing emails ask for a response by email.

Some emails include a form for collecting details that you are told to fill out.

Some even include a link to a web site that resembles the actual site you expect to visit, but is actually a clone of the original site.

Number of active phishing sites reported in March, 2005: 2870

Number of brands hijacked by phishing campaigns: 78

Contains some form of target name in URL: 31%

Country hosting the most number of phishing sites: United States of America

Source: http://www.antiphishing.org

Phishing attacks can be really sophisticated. Some time ago a flaw in Internet Explorer allowed hackers to display a false address while redirecting the user to an entirely different site making it almost impossible to distinguish a phishing attack from a legitimate email.

Possible solutions:

New technologies can provide a better means of countering phishers. One option being explored by a lot of banks is the use of a secure token, a small electronic gadget that generates a unique password to be entered each time a user logs onto the web site. This would make a phishing attack useless because without the physical possession of a token it is impossible to access the account. This approach is somewhat similar to what is used at Automated Teller Machines around the world where you need to have both the card and the Pin number in order to use the machine.

One option is to use a technology popularly knows as PassMarks that effectively acts as a second password. After entering the user name a unique image pre selected by the user is displayed before s/he is asked for the password. If the proper image is not displayed the user will come to know that s/he is not on the authentic site. Another option that a lot of organizations are exploring is using text messages instead of email messages. Text messages cost money to send, so Spammers are less likely to partake in the process making it easier to distinguish between legitimate messages and fakes.

Tropical Hurricane Joyce; No Need to Rejoice

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Well they all warned us before the 2006 Atlantic Tropical Hurricane Season that this would be a big one. We seem to be in a heavy hurricane 1-2 decade cycle, plus it was La Nina on the West Coast this winter. Plus last year was a record breaking year during the 2005 Atlantic Tropical Hurricane Season too. All indicators pointed towards a highly negative impact from this Hurricane Season on our civilization.

When will it all stop? Well let’s just say now with Tropical Depression, turned Tropical Storm Joyce, it is not time to rejoice quite yet. You see Joyce is now going to be Tropical Hurricane Joyce and she appears to be growing in size and strength, as per the NOAA and NASA Weather Satellites. We do not know yet what level or category she might get too, but any Hurricane is not a good thing as we have seen with small category Hurricanes doing significant damage this year already not to mention the biggies.

Since we are already down to the “Js” does that mean it will soon all be over? Well that is hard to say after last years recorded breaking Hurricane Season; after all we even took a big chunk out of the Greek Alphabet and even rang in the New Year with a very late Hurricane. So, no the fact that we are now on the “Js” means little if anything and so do not rejoice yet until after the Hurricane Joyce hit.
