Small Businesses: a Look at Templated Website Solutions

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

If you’re looking to setup a website, you need to locate a web development company that can create your site for you. In determining who to select, you should think about one primary issue: should I go for a bespoke website or a website template?

What’s the difference between template and bespoke websites?

A website template uses already-developed scripts, and you either shape your requirements around how the website template works, or the website template can be amended to fulfill your needs more accurately. A bespoke website is tailor made to meet your requirements. You express your website needs to the web developer, and they develop a website built exactly around your needs.

Tell me the good and bad points of a templated website

The advantages: Your website template uses secure, robust, fully tested, and stable scripts, usually comes with free updates, is very quick to setup and make live, and is going to be far cheaper than having a bespoke website designed.

The disadvantages: your website template might not precisely meet your demands, even with amendments made. Can the website developer tailor the website template scripts, and if so, how capably?

The good and bad points of a tailor-made website

The advantages : Your website will be adjusted exactly to fit your needs. As your web developer will have prepared the site from scratch, he will have close knowledge of the codebase, which is a massive advantage compared to a website template if the web developer doesn’t have much knowledge of the template’s scripts.

The disadvantages : it is expensive, it takes time for a custom site to be created, and you’re chancing your arm on whether the developer is gifted enough to guarantee your website is sturdy, secure, friendly to search engines and is usable and accessible to everybody.

Whatever you settle on, you need to ensure that after your website goes live you focus on advertising the website as without traffic, no matter how good your website looks and functions, it’s no use without a considerable level of of visitors to win over to clients!

Can Stress Play a Role In Hair Loss?

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Copyright 2006 Brendan Conroy

Stress is a fact of life in this modern world we live in. Our daily lives are filled to the brim with work, children, and activities like never before. It seems the more we try to balance our lives, the more complicated they become. It is common knowledge that long term stress can cause a variety of health concerns so it shouldn’t come as any surprise to find that stress can play a role in hair loss too. In many ways, our emotional health is written on our faces (and our heads). Have you ever noticed you can usually pick out people passing you by that are having a stressful day? Their faces say it all. The same is true with your hair.

Can stress play a role in hair loss? You bet it can! There’s even a name for it, Telogen Effluvium. This is defined as hair loss caused by the sudden onset of stress. The odd thing about this condition is that you’re usually over the stressful event before the hair loss even starts. Sudden stress causes the hair follicles to stop growing and enter into the resting phase prematurely. The hair will remain in this resting phase for several months. At this time, an unusual amount of hair will be shed in a short period of time. For the most part, hair loss caused by stress is temporary.

Since stress can play a role in hair loss and we would like to keep our hair intact, just what can we do to prevent it? The obvious answer is to eliminate stress from our lives but that isn’t very realistic since not all stress is within our control. Some situations are stressful and there is nothing we can do to change that. What we can do is learn to deal with the stress in our lives in a more healthy way. This is not only good for our hair production, but for our overall well-being. First we must learn the art of dissociation. Simply put, forget about your problems for a while. The longer you can do this, the more time your body has to calm down. Go out and enjoy yourself. Fun is a great stress reducer. Pick a form of relaxation that works for you. If reading is a great way for you to wind down, set aside time each day to do it. If you enjoy movies, go see one. Rest in your hammock each day after dinner. Exercise can be a terrific way to release stress. I know that sounds like something people just say to get you to exercise but it’s true. Pick something you like, whether it is a team sport or running with your earphones on. The point is, try to find some way that works for you to help you deal with the stress in your life. Not only will your hair grow back, but all aspects of your health will benefit.

Discovering The Healing Properties Of Ganoderma.

Monday, January 5th, 2009

How long have you been suffering due to a specific illness like high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart problem? If you are not at the moment, how do you know that you will not suffer from any disease like cancer or paralysis in the future? Indeed, the changing times has brought do many advances to people’s living. But, as it elevates the people’s living condition, it also brings a lot of new illnesses and diseases that are becoming harder and harder to cure.

Undeniably, the best cure to any disease is prevention. Knowing the important things you should avoid before you suffer minor illnesses like muscle and joint pain, rheumatism, and insomniathat could even lead to more serious health problems like paralysis, ulcer, and heart problemsis to start the journey on finding the best solution.

And how do you do it? It is by starting to discover or rediscover the things that might seem impossible at the beginning. Like what most people did when they discovered one of the healing properties of “the king of herbs,” the Ganoderma. The Ganoderma healing properties were discovered way back in ancient China shrouded with a dash of mystery and tons of secrecy. It was then described as the “celestial herb” because the Ganoderma healing properties does not incur any side effects regardless of amount and period of usage. This was then considered as the ultimate cure for almost all illness and diseases because the Ganoderma healing properties were really effective in the practices of the people in the Orient. Aside from being known for its anti-aging properties and longevity, the Ganoderma healing properties spread to the Western World. Because of the technology and the science used by medical practitioners in the West, the Ganoderma healing properties is now more established upon the discovery of its 280 or more active ingredients with healing medicinal properties.

Among the so many known Ganoderma healing properties are its contribution to the improvement of the person’s immune system. Aside from its positive response in numerous ailments, the Ganoderma healing properties are evident in the three major killers of the modern times – cancer, cerebrosis or an organic disease of the brain, and coronary diseases which are mostly related to problems in circulatory system of the blood. Thus, the Ganoderma healing properties are clearly evident in its contribution in the correction of the blood circulatory imbalance. And while it continues to strengthen the person’s immune system to prevent deterioration, the Ganoderma healing properties is also given credit for its capability to detoxify the body and rejuvenate cells, thus, balancing the functions of numerous organs that get rid of disorders.

Due to the strong evidences of the Ganoderma healing properties evident in numerous studies on its effectiveness in the treatment of many diseases, the demand for it continuously increases. More and more people now consider it as a highly recognized preventive medicine for its detoxifying and anti-oxidants qualities. The “natural wonder drug” helps a person’s body to metabolize well while preventing tissue degeneration that causes different diseases. But, the healing powers of this mushroom don’t stop at by merely acting as a detoxificant, it also acts as a protector and regulator of different organs such as the liver and the intestine. Aside from this, the Ganoderma healing properties is also accounted for being an ‘adjuster’ of blood pressure while enhancing the stability of the various systems of the body.

Indeed, there are many claims on the almost unbelievable healing powers of Ganoderma. But, people’s bodies operate on its own major systems and it cannot always absorb everything one takes in. People who are interested to use this ‘wonder herb’ should try to research about its properties and do a bit of fact-finding before they take on the decision to try it. One really has to discover for themselves if the Ganoderma healing properties will create a balance between the external and internal body conditions. If the properties will work on his systems properly, then one doesn’t have to can yield to diseases brought by the ever-changing times.

Which Came First, the Pedometer or the 10,000 Steps Program?

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Like sushi, Sumo, and Hello Kitty, the idea of walking 10,000 steps per day is “made in Japan.” It originated with Japanese researchers, most notably a Dr. Yoshiro Hatano, who wanted to determine the calorie burn resulting from brisk walking. He then wanted to take that research and try to stem the rising tide of obesity in his country.

Dr. Hatano’s research determined the average person took 3,500 to 5,000 steps per day, and that increasing that count to 10,000 steps per day would result in better health and lower weight. Combine sophisticated research with the penchant for Japanese technology, and the pedometer is born.

Pedometer use quickly swept Japan, with millions of citizens strapping on a “Manpo-kei” (10,000 steps meter). The trend also caught on in the USA, where we have our own problems with obesity in adults and-alarmingly-in children as well.

However, Dr. Hatano is not the original inventor of the pedometer. Based on Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings, it is generally believed he created the earliest versions of a device to count steps.

Thomas Jefferson was also involved, hundreds of years after da Vinci, as he brought a step counter back from his sojourns in France. Jefferson was a staunch advocate of regular walking for mental and physical health.

Jefferson penned a well-known epistle to his nephew, Peter Carr, where he advised him on what he needed to do to become a productive member of society. There were a number of subjects Jefferson wanted him to study, but he also wanted him to walk regularly. He said:

The object of walking is to relax the mind. You should therefore not permit yourself even to think while you walk; but divert your attention by the objects surrounding you. Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far.

He also said Carr should carry a gun with him, but no books. I’m thinking that practice would be frowned upon today, however.

The great thing about walking is that anyone can do it, and you can do it anyplace at just about any time. There are exceptions of course to the above statement, but it is the absolute simplest form of exercise.

You don’t need any special clothing (although comfortable shoes are nice) or special equipment (although a pedometer is recommended). You can do it alone or with a group. You can do it with your family, your friends, or your pets.

Do you need a formal “program”? Not necessarily, but it can help. Some programs will walk you through establishing a baseline, setting goals, and working to meet those goals. A good program can help you stay on track until you meet your health and fitness goals.

So it’s not important whether the pedometer or the 10,000 steps program came first. The important thing is to get out and move!

Hoodia – the New Wonder Weight Controller

London Feb 2006

It may come as no surprise to you, but hundreds of millions of Westerners are now clinically over weight. If you spend any time in America, you only have to go to any of the hundreds of fast food chains to see why this is such a problem; both the portions and the customers are getting way too big! And many parts of Europe and especially the UK are following fast on their heels.

Now, many visitors to weight lifting and body building sites are not particularly obese, but many of them are looking to reduce their body fat to its minimum while at the same time building up quite striking muscle tissue. They are well aware that to really rip and shred those muscles you have to be very lean already, since you can’t sculpt fat!

But of course, the other side effect that haunts body-builders, is that the minute they stop their exercise routines – for whatever reason – they worry that they will just pile on the pounds and so they often do.

So, body builder or not, here is a major problem for a load of people – how to control your weight whatever sort of lifestyle you deem to follow. Now, not many body builders have secret lives as couch potatoes, but sometimes it is good to relax and enjoy life.

If you look at a number of health-related problems facing society today -smoking, sex and obesity, are way at the top of the list. More and more of us are turning to drugs as a cure-all for our little (or big) problems.

Viagra has done a brilliant job to help impotence, and a combination of legislation and drugs has helped to reduce smoking. But millions – no trillions – have been spent on the war against obesity, with very little impact….until now.

In one of the most inhospitable parts of the world, in the Kalahari Desert, there is an ugly looking, foul tasting cactus plant called the Hoodia. As wild life is scattered across miles of inhospitable desert, the San Bushmen of the Kalahari have tended to use two natural drugs to make their lives more acceptable while on long extended hunting trips. Marijuana helps to offset long periods of boredom, but more importantly when they go on these hunting forays, they have been eating parts of the Hoodia cactus to suppress their pangs of hunger and thirst

Although there are over 20 species in the Hoodia family only the Hoodia Gordonii plant contains a natural appetite suppressant

When some South African scientists began doing some routine tests on this plant, they discovered a previously unknown sort of molecule, to which they gave the name P 57. This was then synthesized into a drug that emulated the Hoodia effects on appetite and thirst suppression.

P 57 – Not a very exciting name, but one which is going to have a massive effect on the lifestyle of millions of obese Westerners, and those living from one diet to the next, in the hope of finding the elixir of slimness.

The licence for this product, originally researched by a Cambridgeshire company, has now been purchased by the giant Pfizer Corporation.

Now as usual, if you buy products like this off the web, you have to be very careful to buy certified products. After all, when Viagra was released, a whole plethora of cheap imitation products flooded the market, almost destroying the real drug’s true benefits.

It is important that only 100% pure South African Hoodia from the Kalahari Desert is used for the best effects of this wonder drug, and the only way to ensure you have the real thing is to look to see if your supplier is displaying the certificates to prove it.

Don’t be surprised if the next fast food chain comes in the form of flavored Hoodia burghers – mind you – they won’t sell many as the appetite won’t be there…

The Life Insurance Policy and What You Need to Know Before You Buy

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Are you looking to buy a life insurance policy? Well, be careful. Life insurance can be difficult to understand and it’s easy to be conned into buying something under false pretenses.

Recently a prominent life insurance company together with several of its agents paid a huge fine because it permitted the sale of a life insurance policy disguised as a retirement plan. There was little attention given to what a life insurance policy is truly designed to provide.

Life insurance is not an investment for your benefit. It’s guaranteed income tax-free cash paid to someone you designate in the event of your death. If you deeply care for someone and want to protect them, then buying a life insurance policy makes sense.

As primary bread winner in your family, your lost income could jeopardize the ability of those you love to continue to enjoy their standard of living.

The only way to guarantee an immediate replacement of this money is with the intelligent purchase of a life insurance policy.

Notice I didn’t say term life insurance, low cost life insurance, or whole life insurance.

To your loved ones … this doesn’t really matter.

Over the years I’ve delivered millions of dollars of life insurance benefit to the families of deceased bread winners. And you know what?

No one ever asked me what type of life insurance policy it was. They were just extremely grateful to get the money.

Term is the cheapest, but it’s unlikely the death benefit will be paid since the life insurance policy will probably lapse before you actually die. Right now the premium may seem cheap compared with other types. But what happens when you’re older?

Term life insurance premiums can be level for a specific number of years, but when that number of years is up the price will skyrocket to a point you won’t be able or willing to pay.

Whole life insurance provides a lifetime level premium until the policy is literally paid-up. This could be 10, 20 years … or when you reach age 65, 85 or 100. One big advantage is you don’t have to worry about your policy expiring before you do.

One type of life insurance policy is not necessarily better than another. But it’s critical you understand what you are buying, how it works and your net cost.

After all, if the policy isn’t in force when you die you have thrown your premium dollars right down a rat hole.

By the way, don’t fall for that line about buy term and invest the difference. Anyone who cons you with this bunch of malarkey has absolutely no idea how to intelligently evaluate the purchase of life insurance.

An excellent life insurance policy to consider is universal life. This is the type of policy that guarantees the death benefit up to age 115 regardless of the performance of the underlying investment.

Although more expensive then term life insurance, universal life is far less costly than a typical whole life insurance policy. But be careful because some universal life policies are sold by focusing on projected interest rates rather than contractual guarantees.

If you are considering the purchase of a whole life insurance policy from a mutual company that declares annual dividends, ask the agent for a hypothetical illustration using a dividend forecast at least one percent less the current rate.

In the past when long-term interest rates were higher, mutual companies credited very handsome dividends to their policies. But today with long-term rates still depressed, it’s unlikely a life insurance policy will perform as illustrated.

In summary, pay close attention to the guarantees of whatever life insurance policy you decide to buy. Also, make sure you know the credit rating of the life insurance company.

There is nothing wrong with term life insurance, but understand your options about converting to a permanent plan. This could be critical if you become uninsurable before the policy expires.

Remember, you may never get a second chance to make the right decision.

Revitalize Your Health With Herbal Supplements

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

There is a reason why comfort foods like homemade soups and aromatic herbal dishes seem to have a healing effect on the body. It is because many of the fresh herbs and spices used to create these tantalizing dishes have tons of healing supplemental vitamins and nutrients packed into them. However, you don’t have to be a chef de jour to take advantage of the healing power of herbs. Just go online to a health food store and order your favorite herbal supplement.

Herbal supplements have rapidly gained popularity among users over the past decade. Although eastern cultures have known about the healing effects of herbs for hundreds of years, the power of herbal nutrition supplements are just now beginning to be discovered by western civilization.

The timing of our new “discovery” couldn’t be better. It seems like every month there is a new initiative launched to try and wing Americans off of their dependency on over-the-counter drugs and prescription medicines. Oftentimes, people have been using these medicines so long that their immune systems have adapted to them and they are no longer effective in treating and curing the underlying illness.

However, with healing herbal supplements, your body can begin to heal itself naturally, safely, and effectively. It really doesn’t matter what type of illness or discomfort you are experiencing. There is a natural herbal supplement available to treat just about every ailment, ache, and pain that you may have.

If you are struggling with weight issues, there are safe and natural herbal dietary supplements that can help you conquer the battle with weight loss. If you are having problems with high cholesterol and are becoming a candidate for heart disease and cancer, herbal nutrition supplements such as garlic, ginkgo biloba, and turmeric have been shown to help reduce these risks and stimulate the immune system and healthy blood flow.

Herbal supplements are a natural and effective alternative method of revitalizing and reinvigorating your health. They are safe, affordable, and just flat out work. But don’t take my word for it. Ask the millions of people worldwide who have benefited from the natural healing power of herbal supplements. As always, talk to your doctor before taking on any new medical treatment.

Prevent Premature Ejaculation. A Simple Exercise to Prolong Sex and Increase Sexual Stamina

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Copyright 2005 Mukee Okan

Sometimes overcoming premature ejaculation is a matter of learning effective relaxation techniques and bringing more awareness into your sexual experiences.

Interestingly, this idea contradicts a lot of prevailing wisdom around ‘numbing’ sexual sensations and distracting oneself from the experience.

I want to share a very simple exercise to increase what I call your “cock awareness”.

The more you are present with all your feelings and sensations, the greater the level of your control and arousal and so the more intense your orgasms can become.

Remember orgasm and ejaculation are two separate physiological events for a man (and oh, just by the way, for a woman too!).

The final outcome is that you will develop more control, simply by increasing and refining your awareness, especially of your cock.

The focus and development of awareness is one of the gifts of Tantra.

The word Tantra is a Sanskrit word that means expansion of consciousness and liberation of energy. I’d need a whole other series of articles to begin to delve into that.

For now, I want you to focus on an exercise.

We are all in the chronic habit of holding ourselves away from our genitals, so try this!

THE EXERCISE:

Sitting or laying down, be comfortable.

Relax your breath, notice each breath moving through the nostrils. Then after a few minutes, drop your breath awareness to the navel.

Next drop awareness to the perineum, between the testicles and anus.

And then to the pelvic floor. Bring your awareness to your pelvic floor and relax everything.

Relax your buttocks and anus.

(The pelvic floor is the web of muscles across the base of the pelvis, attaching to the sitz bones, pubic bone and coccyx, forming the base of your torso)

The genitals are enmeshed in these muscles. Usually you are continually pulling up the pelvic floor unconsciously with your inner tension, cutting of sensation.

>From this point on, every moment you remember, bring your awareness to the pelvic floor and RELAX EVERYTHING!

As you are sitting or laying down, feel with your awareness the full length of your cock as it extends from the deep core within and away from the body.

Feel the deep root, where it joins and emerges from your body.

Visualize your sacred cock, as a generator of love energy, a magic wand.

Imagine and feel a fire filling up and flooding of the pelvic area.

Feel the intensity of the most subtle sensations.

Relax into the genitals. Feel them from the inside out.

Relax. Be more rooted in the base of your penis.

Hold the entire penis in your awareness, not just the tip.

Ask yourself, “How can I open more?” Focus on how it feels, not where it is.

Notice how your sensitivity and arousal increase by feeling in a relaxed manner.

There is no outcome here, except to relax and feel more. That is the exercise, practice it often!

While it seems at odds with so much theory around distraction from, and numbing of, sexual pleasure, the basic principle of increasing awareness during sex is this;

Feel your body, sexuality and orgasms; and

Learn your body, sexuality and orgasms; then

Master your body, sexuality and orgasms!!!

In an upcoming article I will explore how the idea of sexual control and mastery is not about control at all … but that would be getting ahead of myself. Until then enjoy yourself practicing.

Love, Mukee Okan

How to Do Linear Color and Other Funky Color Techniques

Friday, September 12th, 2008

At home hair color is a million-dollar business, but there are some services that at-home hair color cannot provide. These services include new and funky techniques used by stylists to create custom styles and looks. But if you know how to do the techniques, you can do them yourself without having to set foot in a salon. Here are just a few of the latest salon color trends and how to do them yourself:

Slicing

Slicing is probably the easiest highlighting technique for you to master at home. The look is very trendy and is identified by a few chunky highlights around the face or in the front of the hair. To use this technique on your hair, make 1, 2, or 3 horizontal partings across the top of the head. The partings should be ” to ” thick and be spaced no less than 1″ apart.

Next, work your color through the section of parted hair making sure that you saturate the hair thoroughly. Failure to do so can result in uneven or splotchy color. Process according to directions, rinse, shampoo and dry.

Tipping

Tipping is a great color technique to use if you have short or heavily textured hair. All you need to do is mix up your chosen color according to the directions. Next, use your fingers to apply color to the last ” of your hair length. Use a comb dipped in color to add extra interest and color to selected parts of your cut. The best places to comb on color is in the bangs and top layers.

Linear

Linear color was made famous by Christina Aguilera. While Christina’s color was wild and contrasting, this technique is also used in more subtle hues to create classic looks. To do linear color at home you will need two different hair colors with the same tonal values. The difference in color can be as little as a shade or two or be drastic.

To start the process of linear color, you first need to create your partings. Begin at the occipital bone (the most prominent bone in the back of the skull) and start a zigzag pattern from ear to ear. The zigzags should be narrow and deep. Pin the top part of your hair up onto the crown. Next, continue the zigzag parting around the perimeter of the head. Note: You should not have a solid line of hair parted around the front of the face and hairline. The parting should leave only a few wisps of hair here and there free.

Using your darker color, apply color to the underneath section of hair and the lower section of hair around the face. Apply the lighter color to the entire upper section. Process according to instructions.

As with all color techniques, the partings are crucial when trying out these tricks for yourself. So, pay extra attention to your partings. If they don’t look right, do them over before applying color.

Infrared Sauna – The Top Choice

Friday, September 5th, 2008

The infrared sauna is quickly becoming the product of choice when it comes to residential or commercial saunas. Unlike traditional units, which use steam to warm the air, infrared saunas use a special type of heat called far-infrared radiant heat, or FIR, a natural energy that penetrates the skin directly without raising the temperature of the surrounding air.

FIR harnesses the therapeutic warming effects of the sun without the harmful UV components, so it’s a safe and effective way to reap the many benefits of sauna usage, which include increased circulation, pain relief, toxin removal and many others.

What makes far infrared saunas superior to traditional types is that they are much more effective, delivering deep heat penetration with much less energy expenditure. Therefore they are less costly to operate, and maximize efficiency.

Also, because they do not heat up the air surrounding the user, they operate at much lower temperatures, only 110-130 degrees Fahrenheit vs. 180-215 degrees for a traditional unit. This offers a much more comfortable environment for the bather, not to mention safer. Regular saunas are often steamy and hot, and it is often quite difficult to breathe. Many older people and those with health conditions tend not to use them for this reason. The infra red sauna, with its noticeably cooler, more breathable environment, can be enjoyed by anyone, young, old or infirm.

Other advantages of far infrared saunas include much quicker warming time, usually 10-20 minutes vs. up to an hour or more, increased sweat leading to more toxin removal, easier assembly and lower costs.

There will always be those individuals who prefer the traditional sauna experience, adapted from Finnish custom, throwing water on hot stones to give off steam. To them that is the only true way to bathe.

But for a growing number of people, infra red saunas are the way to go, offering a relaxing, therapeutic environment without the drawbacks of steam units. This new technology provides a way to reap the many health benefits without having to endure oppressive heat.

Whichever type you choose, you can enjoy it right in the privacy of your own home, because they make units in every size and shape for residential use. You can choose from pre-built models or build one from scratch with a sauna kit.

Do a little research and see what appeals to you. If you’re a purist then a Finnish model might be your top choice. If not, you might find that far infrared saunas are just what you’re looking for.

David Bloom is a health enthusiast and contributor to many fitness sites. He is the author of Infrared Sauna Info, a blog dedicated to residential saunas and sauna equipment and accessories.
